Topic: Do you repair your horse rugs?

Hi smile

Horse rugs aren't cheap and they often get rips and tears in them which can result in a lot of expense if you buy new rugs! Has anyone tried repairing their rugs? Do you have any tips? smile

I haven't but I mean to!

Apparently using thinnish finish line is a great way to stitch tears and then apply waterproofing stuff on top.

Re: Do you repair your horse rugs?

I have obviously always been very lucky with my horses not trashing their rugs.  Only rug i've ever had rip was a cheapie off ebay when another horse bit mine on the bum and ripped it.

Short term fix is to use that black heavy duty tape to hold it together (also waterproof). As for long term, most places that wash rugs for you will do repairs too.  If you want to give it a go yourself then it'd probably be a good idea to patch it up whilst remembering to reproof it too.

A friend of mine always pressure washes her rugs and reproofs them herself smile

Re: Do you repair your horse rugs?

The pressure washer is a great idea, that would save some money on rug cleaning bills. We will have to wait for the dry weather though, if it ever arrives - fingers crossed this year for a good summer smile
