Additions:
Three Day Eventing is the equestrian version of a triathlon, originating from the demanding cavalry tests where officers and horses at one time, had to demonstrate their ability to undertake several types of riding.
Eventing is one of the few sports that allow men and women to compete on a level playing field as equals. This is a truly demanding equestrian event, which requires experience from both horse and rider within three equestrian disciplines. Horse and rider must have a good relationship of trust and have the ability and stamina to tackle the three different disciplines in the time given.
Terminology:
In addition to the traditional 3 Day Event, there can also be a One Day Event and a Two Day Event. These events can also be referred to as 'Horse Trials' or 'Combined Training'.
Beijing Olympics 2008 Eventing Format:
The team and individual eventing will run alongside each other from the 9th until the 12th of August.

1) Dressage Test (9th - 10th August)

Competitors will undergo the dressage test, the score achieved will be converted to penalty points.
See our EquiPortal guide to Dressage: (LINK)

2)Cross Country (11th August)

Competitors will face the grueling 3.5 mile course with 45 challenging obstacles to clear.
See our EquiPortal guide to Cross Country:(LINK)

3)Show Jumping (12th August)

Team Jumping Test: Determines the team classification, where the top 25 riders qualify for the Individual Jumping Test.
(No more than 3 top riders of team classification qualify per nation)
Individual Jumping Test: Competitors undergo an additional jumping test to determine their individual classification.
See our EquiPortal guide to ShowJumping: (LINK)

Final Scoring

Team Event:
The final scores of each team's top 3 riders are added together to make a total of penalty points for that team. The team with the lowest number of penalty points wins!
Individual Event:
The penalty points gained by each individual competitor from all tests are added together. The competitor with the lowest number of penalty points is the winner.
Good luck to the GBR eventing team – bring back the Gold!
